A Cibes Classic lift was installed at Louvre Abu Dhabi in 2025, replacing an earlier Cibes lift that had served the museum since 2017. Designed for public accessibility, the new lift helps visitors, including wheelchair users and people with limited mobility, move comfortably between levels. The replacement formed part of the museum's renovation work, with a focus on reliable daily operation, low maintenance requirements, and reducing service disruptions in a busy cultural destination.
As a major public museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi needs to provide accessible movement for visitors of different ages and mobility needs. The lift offers a convenient way for wheelchair users, elderly visitors, and people who find stairs difficult to access different levels of the museum.
Renovation and lift replacement. The original Cibes lift was installed in 2017 and was replaced with a new Cibes Classic model in 2025 as part of the museum's renovation.
The main requirement was to provide a reliable accessibility solution for a public facility with frequent visitor use. Reducing maintenance-related disruptions and the risk of unexpected downtime was particularly important. The replacement also needed to fit within the museum's existing architectural setting while maintaining convenient access for visitors.
The Cibes Classic was selected as a replacement for the museum's existing Cibes lift, with a focus on long-term reliability and manageable maintenance requirements. Its outdoor configuration was suitable for the installation setting, while its compact, self-contained design provided a practical accessibility solution without requiring a conventional machine room.
An interesting part of this project is its history. Cibes has been present at Louvre Abu Dhabi since 2017, and the museum continued with a Cibes solution when the lift was replaced eight years later. Located beneath the museum's distinctive geometric dome, the installation shows how accessibility equipment can be integrated into a well-known architectural landmark while meeting the practical needs of a public facility.
